When it comes to music getting banned, Olamide might just be the authority on that.

Baddo has done so much provocative and controversial content in the past, he’s been banned, he’s been canceled on social media, everything has happened.

In January of 2018, Olamide started the year with a banger that became one of the biggest tracks of the year, “Science Student.”

The problem with “Science Student” wasn’t that it wasn’t hot or anything. The problem was that Olamide dropped a song about drug abuse and was explicit about it. People criticized the song, and it got banned by NBC. Taken off the air essentially, that didn’t stop the song from being a national hit though.

A month later, to redeem himself, Olamide did an artistic music video for “Science Student” and was all about “Say No To Drugs.” That action was heavily criticized by fans, saying Olamide has suddenly gone soft, and that he’s backtracking because of the radio ban.

Truly, what Olamide did was play it safe. There was no reason for more heat, all the heat he needed to make the song a hit, he already got it. It was only right he tread lightly after that.

Is That What Naira Marley Did?

More than three months ago, Naira Marley, who happens to be one of the most controversial artists of this era, released his most provocative song ever.

In the song, called “Coming” he sings about sex styles, orgasm and he does this so explicitly, you can’t have kids around and play that song. It was banned from the media, but that’s all they can do.

Coming” gathered all the heat, and the week after it was released, it went number one on streaming platforms. It became what everyone was talking about, and especially for a brand like Naira Marley’s, that was just publicity.

Then he said he was coming with the video, and that it’s going to be crazy. Now the video has been released and it’s nothing serious really. Besides a couple of twerking scenes and dancing, there’s nothing in this music video to cause any uproar.

So, Naira Marley decided to play it safe, by not doing anything that’s outrageously out of line. For many people, the video is underwhelming. But for Naira Marley, it gets the work done and soon, they can move on to other things. And that’s that.

Olamide, though, has been under fire more than once His “Story For The Gods” video was banned from TV way back in 2013, and much recently in 2020, he was condemned on social media for his “Wonma Do” which had provocative sexual content.

When it comes to being controversial, Olamide could probably write a manual. All these artsy things in Naira Marley’s music video are just Marley trying to pull the 2018 Olamide move. We get it.

Is This “Coming” Music Video Better Than Olamide’s “Science Student” Video?

Let’s hear from you.
