Ronaldo has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with an option for a further year after passing a medical in Lisbon at the weekend.

According to Dailymail, United splashed a whopping £12.9m on the 36-year-old with £6.9m to follow in add-ons.

UPCOMING ARTISTS! Nigerian Record Labels Are Too Greedy And Inconsiderate (Must Read)

I can never blame Bella Shmurda, Kizz, and other artists for breaching their contracts with their respective record labels

It has come to my understanding that upcoming artists tend to be desperate to get a record deal to free their financial burden and maximize their exposure.

Recall that Kizz Daniel was embroiled in a contractual dispute with his ex-record label, G-Worldwide after arising in the limelight, it was acknowledged that he was placed on N30k monthly payment which later led to dispute and court interference.

The label refused to review the contract with the 27-year-old singer despite making the fame, getting ‘Sold Out’ concerts. Are they expecting him to continue with 30k monthly salary because of the pen-to-paper document?

He was sued for trademark and other infringement with a fine of about 500m.

Though this has however affected him as many events and brands professionally withdrew their bargains and as well the change of name from ‘kiss’ to ‘kizz’.

Similarly, Bella Shmurda faces his dilemma as he was charged to court for copyright infringement with a fine of 200m.

The label claimed he has been releasing songs under another label ‘Dangbana Republik” which is a violation of their agreement. The label also recounts that the name “Bella Shmurda” is its trademark which the artist must stop using henceforth to avoid an additional penalty.

The point is Bella has been on his peek in the space of two years, what are your plans with him as a label? Are you expecting the initial agreement to run for the specific period penned?

In consideration, what if the contract is 2 years and after the end of the contract Bella Shmurda has lost relevancy? Who will be at a total loss? To me, I think breaching the label agreement is a wise decision from the LASU graduate.

However, Zlatan had a management deal with ABE Records which doesn’t strict his royalties and income, the two parties were smoothly on a percentage level which doesn’t bother the Zanku originator to quit the deal.

Imagine him signing the kind of Kizz Daniel deal with Alleluyah Boiz Ent, he might probably go back to the street now begging for money after working restlessly for 2 years for a label.

Zlatan has enjoyed two good years of attention from music listeners and with that space, he has gathered enough money individually. His projects were always on his YouTube page and not on a record label which is a source of income aside from concerts and features.

Mayorkun on another hand is a good example of an artist enjoying a smooth record deal.

Obviously, DMW Boss Davido has always taken Record Label off the business line, it’s rather an avenue to help each other grow.

We learnt any DMW artist are allowed to enjoy YouTube monetization, DMW is not responsible to accumulate its artist financial return.

There are so many privileges from the label and that’s basically why Mayorkun sees no reason to leave the DMW even after his initial contract expired. It’s a win/win for both parties, unlike other greedy labels that consider their artist.

Why Nigerian Record Labels Are Too Greedy And Inconsiderate?

Record labels in Nigeria mostly focus on their profit and have no consideration of the artist bringing in the funds.

It’s fine to start with a promising artiste for as low as 30k Nigerian money because it’s a gamble, what if the artist is not hitting the target after investing in him or her? The label will want to be on the safe side with that.

But there should always be room for contract review every 3 months or at the max of 6 months.

It’s not about doing music videos for them, paying their featuring or settling the studio bills, they need to receive that huge money as well.

What is the percentage of revenue between label and artist?

It’s high time Upcoming Artists open their eyes and demand for contract review after some months with their new label before signing any deal.

Every Upcoming Artist needs to understand that no record label is helping you, it’s a business and if you’re not wise enough, they will use and dump you.

Father Mbaka Warns Buhari Government Again On Nnamdi Kanu

Popular Spiritual Director, Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka, has said Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho are not the problems of Nigeria.

Mbaka said despite Kanu and Igboho’s incarceration, Nigeria is still experiencing security challenges, adding that agitations have also continued.

The clergyman spoke in reaction to the recent attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, by gunmen believed to be bandits.

Addressing his members during a homily, Mbaka said the attack on NDA was the beginning of what will befall Nigeria if President Muhammadu Buhari-led government failed to change.

He noted that worse things awaited Nigeria if God did not intervene in the country’s current situation.

He wondered if Kanu was responsible for the attack on NDA, stressing that the incident was still elementary compared to what would happen if the government failed to take adequate steps.

According to Mbaka:-

“Did you not hear that bandits entered into our most secured place in this country? Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), the impenetrable place in Nigeria and killed some Nigerian military officers.

“Will the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu solve any problem? Will it stop any agitation? Now the attack on the NDA is it Nnamdi Kanu now? Is it not better that he is released?

“Since he is still under their custody and NDA could be perforated, violated and mesmerized, what is the hope of this country if it can happen in Nigeria Defence Academy? Where else is safe?

“As for, two people were arrested in the foreign countries, Sunday Igboho was arrested, Nnamdi Kanu was arrested, Sunday was held down there, Nnamdi Kanu was brought to Nigeria. Now let me ask you question, are you not imagining the velocity of what is going to happen in this country if the entire men of God, prophets of God – real prophets will not stand with Elijah to give assignments to the prophets of Baal, if the prophets of Baal did not experience the power of Elohim, if they didn’t experience the action of the Adonai they will kill Elijah; but they saw that there is God who resides on his altar.”

Kanu, who was rearrested in Kenya and repatriated to Nigeria, has been locked up in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.

The IPOB leader was locked up by the DSS following an order by Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Federal High Court.

Meanwhile, Igboho was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, while trying to travel to Germany.

Igboho had fled Nigeria to the Benin Republic after DSS declared him wanted, following the alleged discovery of guns in his house.

The freedom fighter has been at the forefront agitating for a Yoruba nation lately.

Hector Bellerin is in talks over a deadline day move away from Arsenal.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has ended speculation over his future by signing a new four-year contract.

Everton are in talks about a return to Juventus for striker Moise Kean.

It is not yet clear whether the deal for the Italy international will be a loan with an obligation to buy.

The 21-year-old still has three years left on a five-year deal with Everton, having left Juventus in 2019 for an initial fee of £25.1m.

He has played twice this season under new boss Rafael Benitez but was sent off in the EFL Cup win over Huddersfield last Tuesday.

Edinson Cavani will remain with Manchester United over the international break after his call-up to the Uruguay squad was cancelled.

Premier League clubs had unanimously decided not to release players for World Cup qualifying and friendly matches in red-list countries.

Cavani was set to miss United games as Fifa extended the international windows by two days in South America.

He would also have had to quarantine for 10 days on his return to the UK.

Instead of joining up with his country for three World Cup qualifiers against Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador, Cavani will stay in the UK.

The Uruguayan Football Association said in a statement it had “decided to cancel the call for footballer Edinson Cavani”.

Liya Reveals How She Met Davido And Got Signed To DMW

DMW First lady, Liya has opened up on how met Davido and eventually got signed to his label.

In an exclusive chat with Hiptv, Liya revealed that she and her manager, Vanessa were hanging out with Peruzzi in his car.

According to the singer, Vanessa played her song on Peruzzi’s car radio which caught his attention. After they got to a club where Davido was, she noticed Peruzzi whispered something to him.

Record labels in Nigeria mostly focus on their profit and have no consideration of the artist bringing in the funds.

It’s fine to start with a promising artiste for as low as 30k Nigerian money because it’s a gamble, what if the artist is not hitting the target after investing in him or her? The label will want to be on the safe side with that.

But there should always be room for contract review every 3 months or at the max of 6 months.

It’s not about doing music videos for them, paying their featuring or settling the studio bills, they need to receive that huge money as well.

What is the percentage of revenue between label and artist?

It’s high time Upcoming Artists open their eyes and demand for contract review after some months with their new label before signing any deal.

Every Upcoming Artist needs to understand that no record label is helping you, it’s a business and if you’re not wise enough, they will use and dump you.

Preach In Public, Risk DSS Arrest, Zulum Warns Clerics

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum has directed the DSS to arrest any cleric preaching in public spaces and inciting the public against each other.

The governor, made the disclosure while addressing stakeholders at the interactive meeting on the security situation of the state arising from the sudden surrender of hundreds of Boko Haram insurgents at the Government House on Sunday in Maiduguri.

“One very important thing I want to discuss here is the issue of preaching in the state. If care is not taken, this will become a serious issue because I heard different preachers have started abusing each other.

“I heard they are abusing each other in their preaching. I have ordered the DSS to arrest all of them in the state. The Preaching Service Board has been given all the powers to regulate their activities.

“We shall never allow anybody to come into the state and begin to say things anyhow, be it Christian or Muslim. This is very important. The CAN should write to us, the Jama’atu Nasri Islam should also write to the Borno State Government and the Preaching Service Board with a view to creating access for them to preach. This is very important,” Zulum noted.

Some People Planning Perpetual Crisis In Plateau Using Religion, Ethnicity – Lalong

Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has expressed that some people are planning to keep the state in perpetual crisis using divisive methods.

He stated this while speaking on the recent attacks in the state in a press briefing on Monday.

Lalong asked residents of the state not to allow those who desire to see the state in perpetual crisis to use politics and religion to divert attention from their criminal activities.

The governor said the violent attacks in the state are criminal activities even though they are being given ethnoreligious connotations.

“From the engagements so far, it has again become clear that all these attacks are purely criminal activities that must be treated as such. Even though they are quickly given ethno-religious connotations, there is no justification for the killing of any human being. We are a society that is guided by rules which do not permit anyone to take the laws into his or her hands no matter the grievances,” the governor said.

“There is an obvious plan by those who desire to see Plateau in perpetual crises to employ all divisive methods to achieve their objectives. We must not allow them to use politics, religion, and ethnicity to divert our attention from their criminal activities.

“My determination as your governor is to ensure that I encourage all citizens to embrace one another and use peaceful means to settle any disagreement.”

ASUU Threatens Fresh Strike, Gives FG Tuesday Ultimatum

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed its readiness to embark on another round of industrial action following what it called the failure of the Federal Government to implement an agreement signed with the union.

The union is giving the government till month end (Tuesday) to reach out or it will activate the procedure of embarking on strike.

The union’s President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke disclosed this in an interview with The PUNCH on Sunday.

He revealed that the FG no longer picked its calls, adding that the FG had failed to implement the agreement reached.

He expressed that due to government’s silence over their demands, the union would not hesitate to embark on a fresh strike to protest government’s failure.

He said,

“The government has refused to reach out to us. Government officials have stopped. In fact, they don’t take our calls again. Nigerians should tell the government to do what they agreed to do.

“We signed an agreement and even in May, we reached a final agreement; this is August and nothing has been implemented. Does it make any sense? We are giving them till the end of August and after that, we start the procedures.”
