Wizkid’s “Made In Lagos” or “Superstar” — Which Is The Better Album?

 

Wizkid is arguably one of the best and biggest artistes in Nigeria (and Africa) at the moment.

After releasing four studio albums, one EP and numerous hits, the 30-year-old needs no introduction in the music industry today.

He started out as a protege of R&B singer, Banky W and was signed to Banky‘s Empire Mates Entertainment for a number of years.

His first two albums (“Superstar” and “Ayo”) which were released under the EME imprint, are two of the biggest albums to ever grace the Nigerian music industry.

Wizkid followed up his 2014 release “Ayo” with “Sounds From The Other Side” released under RCA Records/Sony Music in 2017.

The album, which featured various international artists including Drake, Chris Brown and Trey Songz, hit the Billboard Hot 200 albums and became Wizkid‘s first charting album.

After three years, WizKid then returned last year October with the much-anticipated “Made in Lagos” which featured a range of artists from Damian Marley to Ella Mai to Tems.

Some critics have said that MIL is Wizkid‘s best album ever. But is it better than his debut, Superstar?

Superstar, released in 2011 is regarded as a classic album and is full of hits from back in the day.

The album has songs like “No Lele,” “Say My Name,” “Love My Baby,” “Pakurumo,” “Holla At Your Boy,” “Wadup” and more.

It is one the best debut pop albums and is often pitched against Wandecoal‘s “Mushin 2 Mohits” in music circles. “Superstar” solidified Wizkid’s status in the industry.

Made In Lagos, however, is barely six months old and also has a lot of bangers including “Ginger,” “No Stress,” “Essence” featuring Tems, “Blessed” with Damian Marley and “Reckless.”

The album which has almost 500 million streams on all platforms is also Wizkid‘s bestselling album.
