The 2023 Presidential election is far away, with an under-performing ruling party and a chaotic looking opposition party.

Many can’t wait to see the end of this present government, forgive any average Nigerian who is concerned about the chances of getting purposeful leadership in the next elections.

For the first time in a long time, it is unclear what political permutations will throw up the next leader of the most populous black nation on earth.

HERE ARE TOP 5 POLITICIANS WHO COULD POSSIBLY TAKE OVER FROM PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI

1. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu:

The number 1 Godfather in Nigeria politics is being rumoured for sometimes now to be interested in the Presidency in 2023, although, he has said publicly at different occasions that he’s not thinking about 2023 yet, his covert body language, however, says otherwise.

Tinubu has helped installed people in several Political positions, this includes but not limited to President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, he may therefore be tired of installing people and go for the coveted seat of the President himself.

If the APC stay glued to the unwritten arrangement of rotating power between the North and the South and zone the Presidential ticket of the party to the South in 2023, Tinubu is surely one of the surest bet to clinch the APC ticket and anybody presented by APC has a good chance of being elected to take over from Buhari.

2. Atiku Abubakar:

The Nigeria Former Vice-President is a serial Presidential hopeful, having been eyeing the Presidential seat as far back as 1992.

Said to be the major financier of the PDP, many people believe he’s the most powerful member of the opposition PDP who dictates who get what.

It’s also a public knowledge that Atiku has a huge war chest, if the 2019 Presidential election runner-up decides to throw himself into the Presidential race in 2023, it will be difficult not to win the PDP ticket and anybody who wins the PDP ticket do have a bright chance of taking over when the tenure of Buhari lapses.

3. Yemi Osibanjo:

One of the best bet to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 is his Vice-President for the obvious reasons, apart from being the VP who might enjoy the blessings and support of his boss, Buhari, to succeed him, the VP is also a man loved by many Nigerians and some have been calling him to throw himself into the 2023 Presidency ring.

There’s also some school of thought that Tinubu is actually not interested in 2023 Presidency but rather taking bullets for the person he wants to put forward, if this is the case, Osibanjo is definitely one of the people the National Leader of APC will be looking at to put forward to succeed Buhari.

Either way, the ‘Star Boy’ of the President Buhari led administration as being called by his admirers is one of those likely to succeed the current President in 2023.

4. Gov. Nyesome Wike:

By 2023, Buhari, a Northerner, will be rounding-up his 8-year tenure in office, while PDP have not indicate if they will respect the unwritten zoning arrangement rule by zoning the party’s ticket to the South, the Southern political members of the party may just mount pressure on them to zone the Presidency ticket to the South.

If that could be achieved, then Wike may be up there as a strong contender in 2023. With PDP very weak in the APC controlled South West region and the South East having the lowest voting strength, the South-South, which is the biggest stronghold of the PDP have the best chance of producing the party flag-bearer from the Southern region, there is no better choice for the Presidency from the South-South than Governor Nyesome Wike.

5. Bukola Saraki:

The former Senate President who was consumed by the OTOGE tsunami in Kwara state in the last year General Election is surely one of the underdogs to succeed the current President.

Although the electoral embarrassment he got at the hands of the Kwarans was viewed by many as a permanent political retirement, but just last week, he went back to Ilorin, the Kwara state capital amidst a rousing welcome and he may therefore be planning to stage a political comeback.

Having served as an 8-year Governor and the Senate President, which is the third-highest position in Nigeria, he may just be eyeing a comeback through the Presidency and you can only write off the cunning of Late Olusola Saraki at your own peril.
