An 8-man Judicial Panel of Inquiry and restitution has been inaugurated by Lagos Government to investigate cases of police brutality.
It is an establishment of independent body to oversee the investigation and persecution of all reported cases of police misconduct has been one of the main demands of peaceful demonstrators who this month took to the streets across Nigeria to protest against police violence and call for sweeping reforms.
This was disclosed by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who cited Section 5 of Tribunals of Inquiry Law, Laws of Lagos State, 2015 as a legal justification to set up the panel.
He tweeted,
“As we move to end police brutality, by virtue of Section 5 of Tribunals of Inquiry Law, Laws of Lagos State, 2015, I inaugurated an 8-man Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution which will receive and investigate complaints of police brutality in Lagos”.
All done and dusted.
But the information reaching us now is that the 8-man Judicial Panel of Inquiry were forced to take an oath of secrecy before the governor.
WHY? Why an oath of secrecy? For what exactly? It could be oath of anything else, not “Secrecy”.
This simply means that they are only allowed to say what the governor want the public to hear. Unfortunately for them, one of the members leaked it.

Haba na judicial panel no be secret cult ni. This is too bad and unacceptable.
