GUYS!! Between Wizkid’s “Essence” and Burna Boy’s “Last Last” – Which Song Deserved A Grammy Award?

The 2023 Grammy Awards show saw one of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, Burna Boy lost in the Best Global Music Album and Best World Music Performance categories.

The biggest award show which was held yesterday, Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the Microsoft Teatre in the US saw the self-acclaimed African giant losing the “Best Global Music Album” to Masa Takumi with the album; “Sakura” and the ‘Best Global Performance‘ category to a collaboration by top acts, Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode with ‘Bayethe.’

This is not the first time a Nigerian act will be losing those particular categories. Recall, in 2022 Wizkid lost the same categories to Pakistani singer, Arooj Aftab for his single, ‘Mohabbat‘ ahead of “Essence” and also losses to Angelique Kidjo‘s ‘Mother Nature‘ ahead of “Made In Lagos“.

Wizkid‘s “Essence” and Burna Boy‘s “Last Last” are both global hit songs with billboard records and millions of streams across the globe. We all know about the success of both songs…

Despite not winning, the fact that both Wizkid and Burna Boy were nominated is a testament to the quality and impact of their music and they deserve much respect.

So, which song deserved a Grammy? The answer is a subjective one, as both songs offer unique musical perspectives and showcase the exceptional talent of Wizkid and Burna Boy. Ultimately, the Grammy Awards are about recognizing the best in music, and both “Essence” and “Last Last” are deserving of recognition for their impact on the global music scene.
